Spa Lighting

Spa Lighting

A spa is a place where people come for relaxation and rejuvenation. Since lighting is a mood influencer, it is important to get this element of your business right from the start. For the best result, spa lighting should be relaxing, gentle, and helpful in aiding staff visibility. Here are a few tips on spa lighting to help your business create a welcoming atmosphere.

1. Choose warmer color temperatures

Color temperature plays a role in mood. With cooler temperatures in the white or blue range, people are more alert and awake. A warmer temperature will help to relax your clients and makes for an easier choice on the eyes. A good rule of thumb is to stay within a range of 2700-3500k on the Kelvin temperature scale. This will give a yellow to yellowish white output that is perfect for this type of setting.

2. Use accent lighting

While bright overhead lighting may be ideal for other locations, a spa needs lighting that is gentler and less intimidating by nature. A great way to use accent lighting is with recessed cans for a gentle approach to lighting. Another great option is track lighting which you can use in areas needing more illumination such as the reception desk area.

3. Opt for adjustable lighting with dimmers

One of the best ways to achieve the right level of lighting is based on the changing needs of the task. For example, your staff may require higher levels of lighting when doing a treatment whereas the client would enjoy a dimmer light solution when the relaxation part of the treatment starts. To ensure this needed versatility, you need dimmable light solutions. This will allow your staff to adjust things to the right level for the comfort of all involved.

4. Consider shatterproof bulbs

Shatterproof bulbs are a great way to protect clients and staff in the event of an accident. This type of bulb has a special coating that will stop the glass from shattering and becoming a potential danger in the event the bulb bursts or receives an impact. While this is a rare occurrence, considering the nature of the tasks being performed, it would be highly unfortunate for a bulb to shatter above a client during a massage.

5. Choose damp listed lights

Depending on the activities being performed in the space, damp listed lights might be a necessity. Many spas experience moisture in the air either by way of bath sessions, heat-related treatments, or saunas. A damp listed fixture is equipped to handle these environments without taking on damages.
