Bronze LED bollard with a dome top louver reflector on a concrete base beside a paver walkway at an apartment community

The Challenge: Lighting Walkways Between Buildings

Residents move between buildings, parking, and common areas after dark, and the community's paver walkways needed light at pedestrian level. Management wanted bollard lights that would mark the paths at night without looking out of place against the buildings and landscaping during the day.

The Solution: WareLight WL-BOL Modular LED Bollards

The community selected the WareLight Commercial LED Bollard Light with a dome top louver reflector, in bronze at a 36-inch height. The louver reflector directs light down and out across the walkway while limiting glare, and each bollard was fitted to its concrete base with an 8-inch to 6-inch retrofit plate.

WL-BOL bollards are modular, so the configuration can be matched to each area of a property:

  • Wattage Selectable: Three settings up to 24W, with up to 1,800 lumens
  • CCT Selectable: Three color temperature options, set on site
  • Louver Reflector: Controls glare and spreads light evenly along the walkway
  • Retrofit-Ready Base: Modular 6- to 8-inch base, with an optional 8-inch to 6-inch retrofit plate
  • Black or Bronze Finish: Match the buildings and landscaping
  • 120–277V Operation for commercial site wiring

The Results

The bollards line the paver walkways at the edge of the rock and turf landscaping, giving residents a clear guide between buildings after dark. During the day, their slim profile and bronze finish keep them unobtrusive against the stucco buildings and desert landscaping.

"The new bollards made a noticeable difference along our walkways. We were able to get the light levels we wanted while keeping a clean look that fits the property well."

FAQs About Bollard Lights

What are bollard lights used for?

Bollard lights are short post-style fixtures used to light pathways, sidewalks, and landscaped areas. They guide pedestrians at night and add visibility between buildings and common areas without the glare of overhead pole lights.

What are commercial bollard lights?

Commercial bollard lights are built for permanent outdoor installation at properties like apartment communities, office campuses, and retail centers. They typically run on 120–277V and are mounted on concrete footings along walkways.

What is the difference between a louver and a cone bollard head?

A louvered head directs light down and out through horizontal slats, which helps control glare along walkways. A cone reflector spreads light in a wider pattern around the fixture. WareLight WL-BOL modular bollards are available with either reflector.

Can I choose the wattage and color temperature?

Yes. The WareLight WL-BOL bollard in this case study has three wattage settings up to 24W and three color temperature options, so output and color can be set to fit each pathway and the property.

How are bollard lights installed?

Bollards are usually anchored to a concrete footing or base, with wiring run underground to each fixture. For replacements, a retrofit plate can adapt a new bollard to an existing base. The apartment community in this case study used an 8-inch to 6-inch retrofit plate on its concrete bases.
