The arm projection needs to position the shade above the sign face so that light throws downward across the full sign surface. The right arm length depends on the sign height and how far the shade needs to extend to clear the sign's top edge. Arm length is listed in the fixture or accessory specifications.

Are gooseneck barn lights rated for exterior use?

Most fixtures in this collection are designed for outdoor installation. The collection includes wet-location-rated fixtures for exposed exterior applications subject to direct rain and weather contact. For covered exterior locations protected from direct rain, damp location-rated fixtures are an option. Location rating is listed in the product specifications.
