Office lighting has to do two things at once: put enough light on the work plane for people to read screens and paper without squinting, and do it without turning the ceiling into a row of glare bombs over every monitor. The fixtures in this collection are built for standard suspended grids and drywall ceilings, so they drop into the spaces your crews are already working in. Most are low-profile LED flat panels and troffers in 1x4, 2x2, and 2x4 sizes, with recessed lights and LED cylinders for lobbies and accent runs. LED flat panels are the go-to choice for most offices with drop ceilings because they provide soft, even, low-glare illumination for screen-based work. Troffers remain a reliable option for suspended grid ceilings in both 2x2 and 2x4 sizes, while recessed downlights create a clean look in private offices, conference rooms, and lobbies with drywall ceilings. Flush mount fixtures work well where recessed installation isn't possible, suspended linear fixtures add a modern architectural appearance to open workspaces, and track lighting is best suited for reception areas or highlighting artwork and architectural features.

Most office jobs also need fixtures outside the ceiling grid. Exit signs and emergency lights are code-required in occupied spaces, stairwell lighting covers the egress routes, and wrap fixtures handle corridors and back-of-house areas where a grid fixture will not mount.

How to Choose Office Ceiling Lighting

  • Ceiling type: Drop/grid ceilings suit flat panels and troffers; hard ceilings suit recessed downlights or flush mounts; open ceilings suit suspended linear.
  • Glare control: For screen-heavy offices, choose low-glare (low-UGR) fixtures and even spacing to keep light comfortable on the eyes.
  • Color temperature: 3500K–4000K (neutral white) is the standard for offices — clean and alert without being harsh.
  • Controls & sensors: Dimming, occupancy sensors, and daylight harvesting cut energy use and let you tune light to each space.
  • Recessed housing rating: Recessed downlights run 3 to 8 inches. If the fixture will contact ceiling insulation, specify an IC-rated housing; Non-IC is fine only where insulation is held clear. Replacing existing cans is usually faster with a recessed retrofit kit than a full housing swap.
  • Layered lighting: Combine ambient ceiling fixtures with task and accent light in reception, conference, and breakout areas.
  • Even coverage: Plan fixture spacing for uniform light with no dark gaps across the floor plate.

Planning Light Levels and Placement

Fixture choice is only half the job. These are the three things that decide whether the finished space actually works.

Intensity

Underlit space causes eye strain; overlit space causes glare. Both cost you productivity, and both are avoidable with a calculation rather than a guess. Multiply the room area in square meters by your target lux to get total lumens needed, then divide by the lumen output of the fixture you are considering to get fixture count. For computer workstations, 500 lux is the working minimum — enough to read comfortably without competing with monitor brightness.

Efficiency

Office lights run at least 45 hours a week, so wattage compounds fast. LED is the only sensible choice at that duty cycle, and pairing it with occupancy sensors in conference rooms, corridors, and copy rooms cuts the hours further without anyone having to think about it.

Placement

Follow the manufacturer spacing guidance, then align fixtures to the furniture rather than to the grid. A small square table takes a single fixture or a few recessed cans; a long shared table needs a wider fixture or several spaced along its length to keep the light even end to end. In screen-heavy rooms, keep fixtures out of the direct sightline above monitors.

Direction of Light

Beyond the fixture itself, how the light is aimed changes the room:

  • Downlighting — the default for offices. Recessed or ceiling-hung fixtures casting light straight down onto the work plane.
  • Accent lighting — aimed at a specific object or area. Artwork, signage, and display walls in reception.
  • Uplighting — bounces off the ceiling and back down for soft indirect fill. Less common, useful for softening a hard ceiling.
  • Backlighting — illuminates from behind, used for transparent graphics and branded panels.

How many foot-candles should an office have?

The IES puts most general office work at 30 to 50 foot-candles, measured at desk height (around 30 inches off the floor). In a room with 8 to 9-foot ceilings, you can usually hit that with 2x2 panels spaced 8 to 10 feet on center, or 2x4 panels roughly 10 to 12 feet apart. Detailed tasks and conference rooms run higher, so lay it out around what happens in each room rather than one blanket number.

What color temperature is best for an office?

For general office areas, 4000K reads as a clean neutral white that keeps people alert without going harsh. 5000K is cooler and helps where people need to pick out fine detail. Because so many fixtures here are field-selectable, you can set 3500K, 4000K, or 5000K on the same unit and lock in the standard later instead of committing at order time.

Will overhead lighting cause glare on computer monitors?

It can if the lens is wrong for the space. Look for a Unified Glare Rating (UGR) under 19, which is the accepted target for offices full of screens. Frosted flat panels and lensed troffers both handle this well. The fixtures that put reflections on monitors are usually bare or poorly shielded.

Do these office fixtures qualify for utility rebates?
