Why Troffer Lights Still Dominate Commercial Spaces

Troffer lights fit into modular drop ceiling grids, also called T-bar or suspended ceilings. The name comes from "trough" and "coffer," which describe the recessed housing. They sit flush in the ceiling grid, directing light downward into the space without the visual clutter of exposed pendants or surface-mount strips.

Most commercial buildings you walk into, offices, schools, hospitals, retail spaces, government facilities, are lit with troffers. They're the default for a reason: they're efficient, clean, and well-suited to the kind of broad, even illumination those environments need.

What's the difference between a center basket troffer and a parabolic troffer?

A center basket troffer uses a basket diffuser to bounce light off an internal reflector, producing soft, even illumination. It's the most widely used style in general commercial applications. A parabolic troffer uses aluminum louvers divided into cells to control the direction of light and reduce glare. Parabolic fixtures are the better choice in environments with computer screens or where occupant visual comfort is a priority, such as offices and labs.

Are your LED troffers DLC-listed for utility rebates?

Many are; you'll see DLC and DLC Premium listings noted in the product certifications on individual product pages, and both qualify for rebates through most utility programs.

Yes. If the housing is in good shape and a full fixture swap isn't in the budget, our LED troffer retrofit kits can convert existing fluorescent troffers to LED without touching the housing.
