Buying the Right Recessed LED Ceiling Lights For Your Project
Size and ceiling compatibility are two of the most important factors to consider when choosing recessed lighting for your project.
- Size: The right size for your recessed ceiling lights depends on your space and what and how much you want to illuminate. Smaller sizes (1- or 2-inch lights) fit in corners, niches, and other hard-to-light areas, while larger sizes provide more general room coverage, ideal for living rooms or kitchens where suspended lights may be too obtrusive.
- Ceiling Compatibility: For safe and effective installation, ensure the lights are suitable for your ceiling type. Because recessed lighting housing is embedded in the ceiling and generates heat, if you have insulation, choose only fixtures rated IC (insulation contact), which are specially designed for your ceiling type. Non-IC recessed ceiling lights should be placed several inches away from insulation and absolutely cannot come into direct contact with it.
- Wattage and Lumens: Lumen refers to the total light output from a light source, whereas wattage indicates its energy consumption. With advancements in energy-efficient lighting, it's now possible to produce the same level of lumens using progressively less energy. Look for higher light output in work areas and kitchens and lower output to create a relaxed atmosphere in bedrooms or lounges.
