Product Description

The WareLight Surface Mount Square Canopy Light is a field wattage selectable and field CCT selectable canopy fixture. The fixture has a low profile, and the electronics are housed in a weather-proof compartment so the fixture can be used in a number of environments. It also comes with a mounting plate for easy installing. This fixture is ideal for use in covered walkways, outdoor aisles, soffits, canopies, and parking structures.

Who This Fixture Is For

This LED Canopy Light is a good fit for property managers, facility teams, and electrical contractors handling covered exterior lighting on commercial and institutional properties. The square surface-mount profile installs directly to the ceiling and at 3.22 inches deep works well in installations where headroom is limited or where a flush-to-ceiling appearance is a priority. Selectable wattage and CCT keep procurement simple, letting one SKU serve multiple locations across a site with different output or color temperature requirements. It's particularly suited for:

  • Gas station and fueling station canopies
  • Covered walkways and building entry points at schools, hospitals, and office buildings
  • Parking structure ceilings and lower deck bays
  • Building soffits and outdoor aisle lighting under overhead cover
  • Retrofit projects replacing aging HID canopy fixtures

Major Benefits

The WL-SMSC-55 delivers up to 7,700 lumens at 135-140 lm/W in a compact square housing with a built-in mounting plate that keeps installation straightforward. cULus listing, DLC Premium v5.1 certification, three selectable wattage levels, and 0-10V dimming make it a practical choice on projects where rebate eligibility and energy code flexibility both factor into fixture selection.

DLC Premium v5.1 Certification Supports Utility Rebates

DLC Premium represents the higher-efficiency tier within the DesignLights Consortium qualification program, and most utility rebate programs in the U.S. and Canada reserve their largest incentives for Premium-listed products. For projects running multiple canopy fixtures in a parking structure, gas station, or multi-building campus, this certification can reduce net installed cost compared to standard DLC-listed alternatives that may not qualify for the same rebate amounts.

Three Selectable Wattage Settings

At 36W, 45W, or 55W, this fixture covers a lumen output range from 5,040 to 7,700, allowing the installer to match brightness to the ceiling height and footprint of each location without sourcing a separate product. This is particularly useful on projects with mixed covered areas where a loading dock soffit and a parking deck bay may need different output levels but benefit from using the same fixture.

CCT Flexibility in 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K

Three color temperature settings give the installer the ability to match the visual tone of adjacent interior spaces or meet a site-specific preference. Cooler temperatures in the 4000K to 5000K range tend to read naturally in open parking and exterior environments, while 3500K suits covered entry points and transitional zones where a slightly warmer tone is preferred.

Low-Profile Stamped Steel Housing

At 3.22 inches deep, the fixture keeps a low ceiling profile in installations where protruding fixtures create clearance concerns, such as parking garage entries or covered aisles where vehicle traffic passes close to the ceiling plane. The stamped steel housing and weather-proof electronics compartment hold up in the temperature variation and moisture exposure common to covered exterior environments, and the included mounting plate simplifies ceiling installation.

FAQs About our LED Canopy Lights

How does DLC Premium status affect the rebate amount compared to a standard DLC product?

Utility rebate programs structured around DLC qualifications typically offer tiered incentives, with DLC Premium products qualifying for higher per-fixture or per-watt rebates than standard DLC-listed products. The actual difference varies by utility and program year, so checking your local utility's current LED rebate schedule against this fixture's DLC listing will give you the confirmed rebate amount for your service territory. Many states with active energy efficiency programs also allow DLC Premium fixtures to qualify for additional incentives beyond standard rebate tiers.

Can the wattage and CCT be changed after the fixture is installed?

Yes, both wattage and CCT are field-selectable and can be adjusted after the fixture is mounted. To make changes post-installation, simply unscrew the front housing from the mounting plate to access the field-selectable settings. This flexibility makes it easy to adapt the fixture to changing needs without requiring a full reinstallation.

What ceiling height range works best for this fixture?

With a 120-degree beam angle and up to 7,700 lumens at the 55W setting, this fixture is best suited for ceiling mounting heights of roughly 10 to 18 feet. At the lower heights common in covered walkways and building soffits (10 to 12 feet), the lower wattage settings are typically sufficient to meet commercial footcandle targets without over-lighting the space. In taller parking garage bays or high canopy structures, the 55W setting provides the output needed to maintain consistent coverage at the floor level.

What does the operating temperature rating mean for cold-climate installations?

This fixture is rated to operate in temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F), which covers the vast majority of North American climate zones through winter months. This matters for covered exterior installations in northern markets where unheated parking structures and canopies can see extended sub-zero periods. LED fixtures without an adequate cold-weather rating can experience reduced lumen output or startup issues in extreme cold, so confirming the rating is worth doing for any project in a colder region.
