Linear LED shop light fixtures mounted to industrial ceiling grid in warehouse with metal framework

Why Choose LED Shop Lights?

LED shop light fixtures are overhead lights that are much brighter than fluorescent shop lights, and they can include sensors that cause automatic illumination when you enter a room. They illuminate any area where a task is performed, such as your workshop. The right shop light fixture will depend on a few factors, such as the available space, the light spread required, and the mounting preference (whether walls or ceiling). Performing certain tasks with proper illumination requires that these industrial LED shop lights have the following qualities:

  • High color rendering (a color rendering index (CRI) rating of at least 80)
  • High color temperature (CCT) of 4000K or 5000K
  • High lumen output, which is dependent on the amount of space or fixture mounting height used for the given task
  • Can be surface-mounted or hung with hooks, chains, or cables

Types of LED Shop Lights

LED shop lights are available in several fixture styles designed for different spaces, ceiling heights, and lighting needs. Common options include:

  • Linear strip lights: Ideal for workshops, garages, and general-purpose lighting.
  • LED high bay lights: Best for larger spaces with higher ceilings that need powerful, even illumination.
  • UFO high bay lights: A compact high-output option for warehouses, shops, and industrial applications.
  • Grid-mount fixtures: Designed for spaces with existing ceiling grids.
  • Wet-rated shop lights: Built for areas exposed to moisture or changing conditions.

LED shop lights are also available in multiple lengths, including 3-foot, 4-foot, 8-foot, and 10-foot fixtures, allowing you to choose the right coverage for your space.

Where Are LED Shop Lights Used?

LED shop lights put down clean, even light over a working floor, whether that's a service bay, a fabrication area, or a stockroom. The fixtures in this collection are built for that kind of duty, running from 4-foot strip fixtures for lower ceilings up to high-output UFO and linear high bays for tall, open spaces. Many are wattage and CCT selectable, so a single fixture covers a range of mounting heights and tasks.

Common places where these shop lights are found include:

Benefits of Upgrading Your Shop Lighting

Most of these fixtures replace metal halide and fluorescent lighting that eat energy, take time to warm up, and leave dim spots over the work. Here is what the swap gets you.

Enough Output for Any Ceiling Height

The collection runs from low-wattage strip fixtures up through high bays rated past 60,000 lumens, so you can light an 8-foot utility room or a 30-foot warehouse bay from the same catalog. The taller the ceiling, the more lumens each fixture needs to put usable light on the floor. Several models here replace 400W to 1000W HID fixtures one-for-one.

Selectable Wattage and Color in One Fixture

Many fixtures let you set the wattage and color temperature with a switch, usually 4000K or 5000K for shop work. That means a single LED shop light part number covers several jobs, so you carry fewer SKUs on the truck and can standardize a whole building without committing to output at order time.

Built for Rough Environments

A commercial LED shop light often hangs in a space with dust, moisture, or big temperature swings. This collection includes damp, wet, and IP65-rated fixtures, plus vapor-proof and explosion-proof options, and many operate from -40F up to 122F, so they hit full brightness instantly in an unheated garage in the dead of winter.

Controls and Rebate Eligibility

Many fixtures are sensor-ready and dim with a standard 0-10V dimmer, and a number work with the WareSense Blue Bluetooth control system. A large share also carry a DLC or DLC Premium listing, which is usually what qualifies a fixture for a utility rebate. Our rebates and incentives page shows how to find your local program.

LED Shop Lights FAQs

Is a shop light the same as a high bay?

There is a lot of overlap. Once a ceiling gets tall enough, roughly 12 feet and up, the fixture lighting that floor is a high bay. Below that, a linear strip or a compact fixture usually does the job. This collection files both under shop lighting because they solve the same problem at different mounting heights, so filter by your ceiling height and you will land in the right group.

Will these hold up in an unheated garage or cold shop?

Yes. LEDs actually prefer the cold, and many fixtures here are rated to run from -40F up to about 122F. They reach full brightness the instant you flip the switch, with none of the warm-up lag or cold-weather flicker you get from fluorescent or HID. For washdown or wet areas, step up to a wet-rated or vapor-proof model instead of a standard damp-rated one.

Can I put these on a motion sensor or a dimmer?

A lot of them, yes. Many fixtures are sensor-ready and dim with a standard 0-10V dimmer, and several are compatible with the WareSense Blue Bluetooth system for schedules and daylight response. That's where a shop running long hours picks up real savings on top of the cost benefits of switching to LEDs.

Do these come with a plug, or do they need to be hardwired?

It depends on the model. Some high bays ship with a factory-installed whip and a quick-connect cord with a standard 120V plug, so you hang them and plug in. Others are built to be hardwired into a junction box. The product page lists the whip, cord, and plug type for each fixture, so check that before you plan the install.

How Many Shop Lights Do I Need?

The number of LED shop light fixtures needed is determined by the size of the space, ceiling height, and building usage. For a ceiling height of 10 feet or lower, we recommend LED shop lights that are around 100 watts and deliver 10000-12000 lumens. For ceiling heights of between 12-20 feet, high bay lights in the 125-175 watt (12000-21000 lumens) range are most commonly used. In areas requiring higher light levels and less glare, such as low mounting heights, reflectors and lenses can be added to our UFO fixtures.

As the ceiling height increases, the wattage and the lumen output should also increase:

  • 8-10 feet = 80-100 watts (10,000-12,000 lumens)
  • 12-20 feet = 125-175 watt (12,000-21,000 lumens)
  • 18-25 feet = 200-300 watt (22,000-35,000 lumens)
  • 20-30+ feet = 300-400 watt (35,000-47,000+ lumens)

What Are the Different Types of LED Shop Lighting?

LED lights for shops come in various shapes and styles of fixtures to suit specific light requirements and coverage needs. Among these shapes and styles are linear strip lights, linear high bays, round low and high bays, UFO high bays, grid-mount low and high bays, and wet-rated shop lights.
