Who This Fixture Is For

The 6 FT Direct/Indirect Suspended Linear light is well suited for interior designers, lighting designers, and electrical contractors working on commercial interiors where visual comfort is as important as adequate light levels. The 6-foot form factor covers substantial horizontal distance without requiring tightly spaced rows, and the adjustable direct/indirect distribution makes it suitable for spaces where occupants spend long stretches at screens or desks. Selectable wattage and CCT, combined with independently controllable up and down color temperatures, let a single SKU adapt to different zone requirements without ordering multiple variants. Ideal applications for these fixtures include:

  • Open-plan offices and workstation areas where screen glare reduces productivity
  • Conference rooms and boardrooms requiring task light and ambient fill
  • Classrooms, libraries, and training facilities where sustained visual comfort matters
  • Lobbies and reception areas where fixture finish is part of the design intent
  • Projects requiring continuous linear runs or branching layouts using G2 beam connectors

Major Benefits

The suspended linear adjustable direct/indirect output addresses the most common tradeoff in commercial overhead lighting: getting enough light onto work surfaces without creating a visually uncomfortable environment. Four field-selectable distribution ratios, independently tunable up and down color temperatures, and compatibility with the broader connector system give specifiers meaningful control over both the functional and aesthetic outcome of an installation.

Adjustable Distribution Ratio

Rather than a fixed up/down split, this fixture offers four field-selectable distribution settings: 0/100, 30/70, 40/60, and 50/50 (up/down). This allows the installer to prioritize task illumination in workstation-heavy areas or shift toward a more balanced ambient environment in spaces like conference rooms and lobbies, without swapping fixtures. The setting is made on the fixture itself during installation.

Independently Selectable Up and Down CCT

The upward and downward light zones can each be set to any of four color temperatures: 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, or 5000K, independently of one another. This lets specifiers fine-tune the visual character of a space in a way that a single-CCT fixture cannot, matching warm ceiling tones to cooler task light, for instance, or keeping both zones consistent across a full run.

Linkable System With Configurable Geometry

Compatible with L, T, X, and Y-shaped beam connectors, this fixture can be joined end-to-end or arranged into branching and corner configurations. That makes it practical for non-rectangular floor plates and large open spaces where a long, uninterrupted visual line is part of the design. The maximum combined electrical load per connected run is 600W.

Rated for Damp Locations

The cULus Damp Location rating expands where this fixture can be installed beyond standard dry interior spaces. Covered entryways, atriums, and other semi-protected areas with ambient moisture are within scope, which increases its usefulness on projects that span both interior and transitional zones.

FAQs About Our 6 FT LED Direct/Indirect Suspended Linear Fixture

What suspension distance from the ceiling is recommended for a direct/indirect pendant?

For the uplight component to work as intended, there needs to be enough clearance between the top of the fixture and the finished ceiling for the upward beam to spread before hitting the surface. Too little distance creates concentrated hotspots above the fixture rather than even ambient fill. Most lighting designers target a minimum of 18 to 24 inches of clearance. In a 10-foot ceiling space, that places the fixture body at roughly 8 to 8.5 feet above the floor, which keeps it out of standing sight lines while maintaining effective coverage at the work surface below.

Can this fixture be linked with other beam led fixtures in a continuous run?

Yes. The 6 FT Direct/Indirect is compatible with the full beam led connector series, which includes L, T, X, and Y shapes for joining fixtures end-to-end or branching into non-linear configurations. The constraint is a 600W maximum combined electrical load per run, which determines how many fixtures can be chained together based on the wattage setting selected for each unit.

Can the up and down zones be set to different color temperatures?

Yes, and this is one of the more useful features of the direct/indirect design. The upward and downward light components each have their own CCT selector, both covering 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K. That means you can run a warmer uplight for ceiling fill while keeping a cooler, crisper tone on the work surface, or match both zones to a single temperature for a uniform appearance. The selectors are accessible on top of the fixture body and are set during installation.

Does splitting output between up and down affect light levels at the work surface?

Directing a portion of the output upward does reduce the direct footcandles reaching the desk compared to a same-wattage downlight-only fixture. The tradeoff is a reduction in ceiling contrast and glare, which matters in spaces where occupants spend extended time at screens. The fixture's four distribution settings (0/100, 30/70, 40/60, and 50/50) let the installer dial in how much of that tradeoff to accept based on the specific application. Spaces with demanding task requirements can use the 30/70 or 0/100 settings to maximize downward output, while lounge areas or lobbies may benefit from a 50/50 split.
